Any movement can be divided into three components: rotation, spinning, and transfer.
Transfer - center of mass movement, perpendicular to the staff's rotation plane. Continuous staff rotation in one plane with closed grip is impossible (if you do not have bearings instead of the wrist joint), thus you have to transfer. In simple cases staff carried over to the other side relative to the body. For more complicated movements, the inside planes are used.
